A MODERN INSTALLATION IN WEST OAKLAND

The Big Dream

This ADU was built during the summer of 2018 in West Oakland. The goal was to create a clean and open design, drawing from transitional, midcentury, and even farmhouse chic styling.

To that end, we installed several large front-facing windows to maximize the natural lighting, as well an array of recessed lights and a variety of lighting fixtures. The engineered wood floors, barn door for the pantry, and simple cabinet hardware all counterbalance the massive kitchen island, which centers the the room.

One of our favorite details with this project are the frameless shower doors. This simple addition adds space and depth to the bathrooms, minimizing obstructions and maximizing the natural lighting.

The Deck

The deck was constructed using 1×6″ Trex decking to extend its life expectancy past what common board wood can offer. The handrail was built with 1×6″ redwood boards with a natural stain. Beneath the Trex decking you’ll find pressure treated beams installed using Simpson strong-tie hardware, ensuring a perfectly flat and stable deck for decades to come.
